Program options
There are a variety of program options offered through the Pea Ridge GT program. Beginning at the Primary level, K-2 students are served through whole group enrichment for at least 30 minutes each week. During whole group enrichment, students are given opportunities to expand their creative thinking in many, varied, and unusual ways. These enrichment classes help to screen and identify students who may be good candidates for direct GT services.
Identified GT students in grades 3-8 are served in resource classes which meet for at least 150 minutes each week. Students are pulled from their regular classes to participate in lessons and activities that stimulate critical thinking, creativity, and personal growth. Individual and/or group investigations are largely inquiry- and project-based and center around in-depth topics not covered in the regular classroom.
High school GT students meet monthly in small groups with the GT Coordinator to work on post-secondary transition needs such as ACT prep, college visits/academic appointments, and job shadows/mentorships. GT students' academic needs are met through differentiation in secondary core content areas, including pre-AP and AP classes. Beginning their sophomore year, GT students are strongly encouraged to enroll in at least 1 AP class each year according to their strengths, interests, and needs.
